My Favorite Bible Verses to Renew My Mind With

I’ve been very challenged lately about what thoughts I’m thinking. Did you know that the average human thinks over 6,000 thoughts a day? There’s a lot that goes on in our heads!

Recently, I found myself feeling stressed out and really overwhelmed. I tried to stuff down the feelings and just move on with the things I was doing, but that didn’t really help. I felt like something was off and I couldn’t place it. That really bothered me.

Finally, the Lord helped me to see what was going on: I wasn’t renewing my mind with the truth.

It is very important that we, as followers of Jesus, be intentional about what we think about. Rather than conforming to the thought patterns of this world, we need to renew our minds with the truth that comes from God’s Word.

For example, I had fear thoughts that I wouldn’t be able to figure out what God wanted me to do in different areas of my life. I was scared of making mistakes, messing up, and missing what God was trying to show me. At first, I kind of just ignored those thoughts. It was too overwhelming to even go there in my mind, and I just didn’t want to spend time addressing my thoughts. I had a lot of free time on my hands that week, and I’d been soaking in the time to write my new novel, bullet journal, read, and just relax.

But when I realized that strongholds of fear that were being established in my mind, I started taking action! I began quoting Scriptures, like, “God is able to keep me from falling,” “He leads me on paths of righteousness,” “Faithful is He who called me, He also will do it,” “God says do not be afraid,” and so on.

In declaring these Bible verses (just changing the tenses & putting “me/my” in there to personalize it), I felt my faith begin to rise. I came against the lies with the truth of God’s Word and it started to make a difference. After all, the truth sets free!

Over the next few days, my whole attitude began to shift and I felt incredible peace & victory rather than fear, doubt, and defeat.

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12.

Some of my favorite verses to renew my mind with

The Scriptures are so powerful, and here is a list of some of my favorites that are packed full of transforming truth.

It’s important to remember, though, that the promises in the Bible are contingent on us doing our part. For example, if someone is living in sin, they have no right to expect God’s promises of blessing, freedom, and an intimate relationship with Him. Or if they’re continually giving in to fear and anger, then peace & joy will be absent because they’re simply not doing what God says to do.

It’s not that God is withholding from us if we don’t do good enough, because it’s not about doing “good enough” or performing perfectly. It’s about following God with our whole hearts and being obedient to Him.

At the end of the day, it’s the Holy Spirit who helps us walk in truth & righteousness and reminds us of God’s words. The Scriptures that you read are like seeds that are being sown in your heart. The Holy Spirit will water them and bring them to your memory when you need them!

I really needed to hear this Leah-I’ve been feeling fear and uncertainty wondering what God wants for me as well, and I need to remember that fear doesn’t have to be part of a relationship with God and that the truth is what I should be living in. Thanks for the list of verses! One of my favorites is Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

You’re right, fear doesn’t have to be a part of anyone’s relationship with God. It’s a topic I’m super passionate about since I’ve seen what damage it can do—and I’ve seen the incredible things that happen when fear has no dominion in our lives! Psalm 32:8 is a wonderful verse and important reminder. Our Father will instruct, teach, and guide us. There’s so much assurance in that 💖
